London Chamber Ensemble (LCE) – Madeleine Mitchell, Gordon MacKay, Bridget Carey & Joseph Spooner – perform contrasting String Quartets. They open with the evergreen Haydn Quartet The Bird, in the opening of which the leader strikingly evokes birdsong, which returns throughout. LCE then bring us the magical In Gloucestershire by Herbert Howells, and conclude with Ravel’s glorious String Quartet, “a svelte, polished, sensuous masterpiece”, published when he was just 28.
This concert is part of the Pinner Music Festival.
