Fifty years ago a small group of people met and formed the society now known as the Worcester Gilbert & Sullivan Society. Their first production was The Mikado, so it is with great delight that we are performing it as our anniversary production.
The Mikado is the most internationally successful Savoy opera and is one of the most frequently played musical theatre pieces in history.
Nanki-Poo, the son of the Japanese emperor Mikado has fled to the imaginary town of Titipu to avoid marrying Katisha, an older woman. However, he ends up falling in love with Yum-Yum, who is betrothed to the Lord High Executioner Ko-Ko.
Under the expert baton of Sue Black and direction of Bev Butler, this comic opera in two acts is sure to please any audience.
