Join our free nature-writing workshop, organised as part of the Solstice Nature Writing Prize 2025. Led by Nottingham's first Nature Poet Laureate, Cara Thompson, the workshop will take place at Attenborough Nature Reserve and is open to 13-17 year-olds.
About the event
Are you a 13-17 year old with a story to tell? Whether you’re a budding blogger, or a secret Notes App poet, join Nottingham’s first Nature Poet Laureate, Cara Thompson, for a creative writing workshop in the heart of the stunning Attenborough Nature Reserve. This free workshop is an invitation to slow down, get inspired by the world around you, and discover your inner nature-writer.
Together, we’ll explore and gather inspiration from the Attenborough Nature Reserve grounds (weather dependent), and respond to creative writing prompts to get your minds ticking. You’ll also have the opportunity to submit any writing that you create to Writing East Midland’s Solstice Prize competition, where you could win a cash prize of £100!
Come prepared to write, wander, and learn how we can all get inspired by nature. No prior writing experience necessary. Just bring a notebook, a pen, and a curiosity for the world around you. Dress for the weather. See you there!
WARNING: This workshop is dependent on weather as it will be held outside. If it's really bad, we will need to postpone the date at short notice.
