Join us for a festive showing of one of the greatest musicals - Luvverly!
The word “lavish” could have been coined for this film. Warner Brothers dug deep into the family coffers - the production budget was the highest ever known at $17 million - and it shows on the screen. Everything is lavish - the design is by Cecil Beaton, musical direction is by Andre Previn and the vast cast is headed by Audrey Hepburn and Rex Harrison.
The story of the poor flower seller picked out of the gutter and taught to speak proper comes from George Bernard Shaw’s Pygmalion and the music and lyrics added by Lerner and Loewe have made it a long running favourite on stage and screen.
It’s a film that really should be enjoyed on the biggest screen - it was made in 70mm with twice the definition of standard 35mm film - so it’s a shame that a long running copyright squabble has meant that it has been confined to the small TV screen for nearly 30 years. We’re proud to be one of the first cinemas to show My Fair Lady as it should be shown - gloriously restored to full lavishness. A truly lavish Christmas show! (UK/USA 1964)
