SPACE WEATHER AS AN ENERGY SECTOR HAZARD. At the end of February much of Britain enjoyed displays of the Aurora Borealis or Northern Lights. However, an active sun can also lead to space weather, through solar flares, geomagnetic storms, and high energy cosmic rays, that presents a risk to critical energy infrastructure in the UK. We will look at some of these risks and discuss the UK Government’s Severe Space Weather Preparedness Strategy.
