Reduction Lino Cut Printing with Judith Hanley

Learnt to print several colours with the same plate. The aim is to provide a relaxed, friendly, supportive, experimental and fun experience where you will learn a new (or revive a previous) skill and take home something you feel proud enough to frame! The course will cover the basics of using the cutting tools and how to simplify imagery for those new to lino printing. We will start by preparing an image/drawing ready to be transferred onto lino using tracing paper and softcut' lino. You will be guided through how to plan each colour stage before cutting your lino design. With colour reduction techniques you will be shown how to register your paper to achieve successful layers of print. There will be a range of coloured papers to print onto which will extend the opportunities for colour combinations. It will only be achievable to print two layers of ink in a day, giving you the option for a two-colour reduction (plus the paper colour) or taking work home to be continued. The prints will still be 'tacky at going home time so you will need to consider how you could transport them home - spread out in the back of the car would work. If you have a particular theme or image you would like to work from please bring it along - your own drawings, photographs or magazine cuttings are all good source materials - but don't worry if you haven't got anything - there will be imagery to choose from. The largest size of lino is A4 with options to work to any dimensions down from this. Please wear clothes that you don't mind getting messy and/or an apron. All materials and equipment will be provided. A home cooked lunch and all refreshments are included. The course includes a basic Lino Printing Equipment pack for you to take away with you. If you have your own tools then please contact us to gain a slight discount on the price.
