Nevill Holt Festival: Visual Arts and Music

Access from noon onwards to the Nevill Holt estate gardens and Modern British sculpture collection as well as the 2024 Festival’s exhibitions of Anthony Caro and Eduardo Paolozzi’s sculptures, marking the centenary of both artist’s birth.
The afternoon begins with talks from contemporary artist Chila Kumari Singh Burman (noon) and novelist Anthony Quinn (1.30pm).
At 2pm is the world-exclusive premiere of BOTY, the first-ever film to explore the fascinating life and times of the trail-blazing artist. This will be followed by a panel discussion featuring Dr Sue Tate, Natalie Gibson, Chila Kumari Singh Burman and Louisa Buck.
At 4.30pm Simon Martin (Director of Pallant House Gallery) gives an overview of British Pop art, exploring the connections between visual artists and iconic musicians from the 1950s to the 1980s.
Iconic pop Artist Allen Jones will discuss his life and work at 5.30pm, giving an insight into the British Pop Art scene and how the face of the art work changed in the 1960s.
At 6:30pm, Daniel F. Herrmann, Curator of Modern & Contemporary Projects at the National Gallery, gives an introduction to Eduardo Paolozzi’s varied practice, from his revolutionary sculptures and vibrant fabric design to his subversive printmaking and psychedelic drawings.

At 8pm, British pianist Benjamin Grosvenor gives a recital that will traverse from the most intimate and inward-looking Brahms Intermezzi to the huge canvas and high drama of Chopin’s last Sonata.

Other Visual Arts events during Nevill Holt Festival 2024 include talks from Andy Goldsworthy (in conversation with Andrew Marr) and Nic Fiddian-Green, a collaboration between photographer and conservationist David Yarrow and Britten Sinfonia and a collaboration between folk artist Ben Edge, composer Isabella Gellis and Shadwell Opera.
