This summer, outdoor and public spaces in Barrow town centre are coming to life with striking
new free photography exhibitions and trails that celebrate the town’s people, heritage, and
working spirit. Signal Film and Media presents a series of new photography inspired by the
historic Sankey Photography Archive, launching on Wednesday 9th July 2025 with a celebration
at Barrow Town Hall, 6-7.30pm.
The photographs capture Barrow through a new lens, bringing together encounters with both
people and place, celebrating the calibre of the town from scenic views to its quietly charismatic
residents.
Discover two newly commissioned photography series. The Binding Tide is an outdoor exhibition by the award-winning, internationally-acclaimed photographer Nicholas J.R. White at Barrow Town Hall Courtyard. His series of photographs explores the margins of Barrow, tracing the coast road from Ulverston to Roa Island; North to South Walney and the fringes of Barrow Island and celebrates the people he met during his time here.
The Workers by Dawn Parsonage is an outdoor trail displayed in Barrow Library, the Train
Station, Dandy’s Furniture Store, Cavendish St ginnel and the Town Hall. Dawn wanted to capture businesses in Barrow today that people have connections to. Her photographs echo equivalents of the Sankey workers through a modern lens.
More events, talks and activities will coincide with this project. Please see Signal Film
