King Street Gallery welcomes long standing member, Donna Gray to the Chate Room with her exhibition which is inspired by her love of capturing the essence of people in her figurative paintings and sculpture.
“I’m a figurative artist based in Carmarthenshire. I started out as an oil painter, but recently I’ve discovered a new passion for working with clay. People have always been my main inspiration. Whether I’m painting or sculpting, I’m not just focusing on how someone looks—I’m trying to capture the feelings and emotions beneath the surface. A lot of my work is inspired by my daughters and watching them grow into young women. I’m fascinated by the little moments and emotions that shape their journey, and I try to capture the essence of these experiences in my work. In my ceramic sculptures, I blend traditional hand-building techniques with a more painterly approach to clay. A recent addition to my work is the use of antique ceramic shards, which I’ve collected over time from various places. These shards hold personal meaning for me and bring a sense of nostalgia to my sculptures, creating a connection between the past and the present.”
