Heritage Open Day: A medieval church which is open to visitors. St Giles’ Church once stood outside the city walls, ministering to vagabonds, lepers and those not welcome in the city; it now sits within the city at the end of St Giles’. The church has a chancel roof dated to the mid 13th century and a 14th century font of unusual design. William Juxon was the vicar from 1609-1615 and went on to become Archbishop of Canterbury. During the siege of Oxford (1644-1646) the church was used as a prison and a stable by the King’s forces.
