Manchester, Sheffield & Lincolnshire Railway Exhibition

Heritage Open Day: Take a 'ride' back in time on a Manchester, Sheffield & Lincolnshire Railway train from Grimsby Town Station via Grimsby Docks Station to the Pier Station on the Royal Dock, finding out about the MS&L buildings on the way. Although the railway and the Royal Dock had already been built by the Manchester, Sheffield & Lincolnshire Railway when Edward Watkin (1819-1901) became General Manager in 1852, many buildings were erected during his long involvement with the town, some of which remain today. Our exhibition takes a look at some of them, from the dock workers’ houses and the Emigrants’ Hostel to the statue of Prince Albert and the iconic Dock Tower.
