Heritage Open Day: Church open to visitors to look around the building, enjoy a very historical building and meet other visitors. St Mary’s is a Grade 1 listed building. The present building is based on the 12th century church and was changed quite significantly during the 15th century but has the nave pillars and tower pillars from the 12th century building. It houses a rare anglo-saxon cross and pieces of a second cross found in 2020 which is of a similar age. There is the grave of Joseph Hunter and the vicarage was the home of the remarkable Gatty family.
The churchyard will be open and the tower with 10 bells on the Saturday from 10.00am to 2.00pm.The stained glass and memorials recognise the notable lives during previous centuries.
