Heritage Open Day: Hawkshead Grammar School Museum's historic library will open especially for Heritage Open Days! Usually closed to the public, this is an opportunity to learn about the founding in 1675 and the students who used the books, including Wordsworth. The school's historic library was founded in 1675 by ex-pupil Daniel Rawlinson, who also rebuilt the school building into what stands today. Rawlinson crowdfunded the library books from family, friends and colleagues in London, creating a unique collection beyond a traditional grammar school curriculum. Along with religious scripture, Latin and Greek mythology, books on world history, naval maps, and astronomy expanded the teaching here and inspired the schoolboys for centuries.
