Manchester Street Hall, Boys Brigade

Heritage Open Day: Originally a Wesleyan Chapel built in 1884, it was bought by Morpeth Parish in 1964 to be used as a hall for The Boys' Brigade. It is now being refurbished to create a youth centre. The first building on the site was a Methodist chapel, one of 64 founded in the mid-eighteenth century by the religious revivalist, Selina Hastings, Countess of Huntingdon. In 1809 the Wesleyan Methodist church bought the chapel, first rebuilding it in 1823, before commissioning the existing building in 1883. This was built as a Wesleyan Chapel in 1884 on the site of the earlier chapel. In 1964 the hall was bought by its current owner, Morpeth Parish, to be the Morpeth home of the Boys' Brigade, the first brigade to be established in England.

Plans will be on view to show how this building is to be revitalised to create a vibrant centre for the children and young people of Morpeth.
