Music in The City – Lankester’s Vault
Heritage Open Day: An inclusive celebration of music of all genres amidst the vibrant cultural heritage of Southampton. Culminating in an annual multi-venue music festival on 13/14th September. We exist for the musicians and the people of Southampton. Lankester's Vault gets its name from the family who ran the ironworks behind Holyrood Church
across the High St and leased the vault during the 19th century. Built in Bembridge stone
from the Isle of Wight, many of the limestone blocks have Roman numerals carved into them to
indicate the thickness of each block in inches with many of these blocks probably being reused from an earlier vault.
