Heritage Open Day: St Hilda's Church (1905) was built to serve the emerging population of West Jesmond. It retains many furnishings from the Arts & Crafts period, with an exhibition of vestments, frontals, hanging pyx and a triptych by Fra Newbery By 1900 the need for another church and Sunday School to serve the new housing area of West Jesmond was clearly evident. A short walk from West Jesmond station, the church was built to designs by Newcastle architects Hicks & Charlwood. The Grade 2 listed building features a spacious nave with a wooden barrel roof and rose window, both north and south aisles, a lady chapel and high altar, plus a fine pipe organ by the Newcastle firm of Blackett & Howden.
