St Hilda's Church, Jesmond, Thornleigh Road, Newcastle upon Tyne NE2 3ET Heritage Open Day: St Hilda's Church (1905) was built to serve the emerging population of West Jesmond. It retains many furnishings from the Arts & Crafts period, with an exhibition of vestments, frontals, hanging pyx and a triptych by Fra Newbery By 1900 the need for another church and Sunday School to serve the new housing area of West Jesmond was clearly evident. A short walk from West Jesmond station, the church was built to designs by Newcastle architects Hicks & Charlwood.
