Heritage Open Day: Christ Church is a fine example of Victorian Gothic architecture. Its interior includes carvings and artwork by notable religious artists of the 19th and 20th century. Christ Church is Grade II* listed and was consecrated in 1861. It has a distinctive spire with projecting grotesques which give it a forbidding appearance, however once inside, the interior surprises and delights the visitor with its blend of space and light. The church contains several features of interest for a visitor which includes a World War I memorial stained glass window, reredos by Charles Edgar Buckeridge (the esteemed Victorian religious painter) and Christ the King figure. Heritage displays will tell the story of the Christ Church and Shieldfield.
