Our Cultural Heart

Heritage Open Day: Former Queensgate Market building being transformed into a vibrant new food hall, library and public square. Opened in 1970, the former Queensgate Market building is undergoing a significant redevelopment as part of Kirklees Council’s Our Cultural Heart scheme.

The former market hall is being reimagined as a new food hall as well as a new glass-fronted library. Connecting the two will be an attractive new public square.

The iconic hyperbolic paraboloid structures of the former market building will be exposed to the public as part of the development, having previously been obscured.
