Heritage Open Day: Christ's Church was built in 1803 and, despite modifications and alterations, much of its original character and charm is retained. Visitors will find many features of interest, including a grave site, in this historic and beautiful, building. The reformation of the 16th and 17th centuries led to the development of “non-conformist†Christianity across Great Britain – including in Swanland where preachers who had been ‘ejected’ from the established church found a warm welcome. The religious rebels of East Yorkshire set up meeting places, and in 1693 an independent Chapel was founded in Swanland on the site where Christ's Church now sits.
