Heritage Open Day: Downham Grange, the former site of a white mansion in a quiet corner of Downham Market. Downham Grange care home was built in October 2013 on the former estate of Clackclose House.
This original ornate mansion, nestled in ten acres in the early 1900s. The first occupants were local solicitor Harry Reginald Bland Wayman (later Lt-Colonel Wayman DSO) and his wife Elsie and they lived there until after the end of the Great War before moving to Denver Hall.
In 1923 Hector Buchanan occupied the house, followed by John Charles Rains in 1948, who also sold much of the estate for housing built by local firm Barker Brothers.
