South Moor Heritage Trail Walk

Heritage Open Day: Our walk around South Moor Heritage Trail visits prominent locations from a century ago including brickworks, miners rescue station golf course and Memorial Park. Find out about the history and development of the village following this marked trail. Join us for a guided walk around South Moor Heritage Trail of approximately 3.5 miles starting and finishing at South Moor Memorial Park. In the 1920's South Moor was a bustling, expanding village in the expanding town of Stanley. Mines and associated housing and social provisions had been increasing since the mid nineteenth century with South Moor Memorial Park opening in July 1920 as the final piece in the jigsaw. Miners lived in colliery owned terraced housing and visited the local church.
