A Profiles of the Past Exhibition: William Hamlet, a singular artist

Heritage Open Day: The artist William Hamlet the Elder (c.1749-1822) described himself as being, 'From Abroad...' and as '...the most singular artist in the Kingdom'. We now know that Hamlet was of African descent. Join us to learn about him and his family. This exhibition has developed from work undertaken by a number of contributors to our 'Profiles of the Past' project, most especially our Profiles silhouette expert, Brian Wellings and our West Country-based collaborator, Ceris Humphreys, who is involved in research with several organisations in the city of Bath.
