Lincoln Choral Society present Durufle's Requiem and Vaughan Williams Five Mystical songs. The requiem blends Gregorian chants with French Impressionist harmonies, accompanied by the wonderful Father Willis organ in Lincoln Cathedral, a fabulous setting. The work explores humanities struggle with the mysteries of death, contrasting moments of stillness and agitation in the lead up to ultimate rest and light, rather than focusing on the terrifying Day of Judgement.
The Five Mystical Songs are a musical composition by English composer Ralph Vaughan Williams. The work sets four poems by Welsh poet George Herbert.
