Wolves howl in the forests of Transylvania. Waves crash against the cliffs below Whitby Abbey. The infection is spreading. Count Dracula walks amongst us.
This Halloween, forget the fancy dress parties and horror movie marathons—spend Halloween at the Joseph Rowntree Theatre. Local theatre troupe Stage Hammer invites audiences into the haunting world of Bram Stoker’s Dracula with a bold new stage adaptation of the gothic classic. Faithful to the original 1897 novel while honouring the century of mythology that followed, this production promises to deliver a chilling, atmospheric retelling of one of literature’s most enduring legends.
Unlike traditional adaptations centred on a single protagonist, this version of Dracula, written by Christopher C. Corbett, mirrors Stoker’s original structure and shifts between multiple perspectives, giving voice to the fears and vulnerabilities of each character as they confront an alluring yet terrifying enemy. The result is a tense, multi-layered journey that builds toward a final, unforgettable confrontation.
When darkness falls, the legend comes to life. We bid you welcome.
