THE GOSBERTON AT WAR EXHIBITION
Journey through the large display area, telling the story of GOSBERTON AT WAR. Understand the Second World War from a Gosberton perspective, from preparing for war, through to ultimate victory, and the aftermath. Life (and death) in the Services, and on the Home Front in Gosberton, Risegate and Clough.
Peruse the ROLL OF HONOUR, dedicated to those men and women who served in the armed services, auxiliary services, and on the Home Front, in the Gosberton villages.
See our exhibits telling the story of the EVACUEES billeted in the Gosberton area, and of those girls, mainly from Yorkshire, who as LAND ARMY GIRLS worked on the local farms, helping to ensure this essential work to feed us all during the war was maintained, given that many of the male farm labourers had joined the services.
The family of a Gosberton Land Army girl will be visiting to hear about a life-changing accident, details of which they had never known, and to meet a man who remembers the accident happening over 80 years ago. The story of this girl is told in a film, made especially for this event, called BAD DAY AT BURNT HOUSE FARM. This film, along with other war-related short films, will be shown at intervals throughout the day.
A WW2 evacuee will be talking about his experiences moving down from Yorkshire as war broke out, his time spent with a local family and his return to Yorkshire at the end of the war
An event you can’t miss! It promises to be very educational, so do bring your children or grandchildren along, too.
Looking forward to seeing you there!
