Join Sean Schofield, a qualified and highly experienced Mountain Leader, for one of the Lake District’s most celebrated mountain routes, Helvellyn via Striding and Swirral Edges.
Starting from Glenridding, this circular route combines two thrilling ridge lines, panoramic views, and the satisfaction of summiting Helvellyn (949 m), England’s third-highest peak.
This is a true Lake District classic and an ideal introduction to grade 1 scrambling under professional guidance.
The day begins in Glenridding, climbing steadily to Red Tarn where the dramatic ridges of Helvellyn appear ahead. We cross Striding Edge first,an exhilarating yet achievable ridge that offers expansive views across the valleys to the north and south.
After reaching the summit of Helvellyn (949 m), we pause to take in the scenery before descending via Swirral Edge, returning to Red Tarn and Glenridding. Expect varied terrain, exposure in places, and unforgettable views throughout.
This is one of the most sought-after routes in the Lake District, combining technical interest with achievable adventure for confident hikers.
