Market Harborough care home welcomes community for festive fun

A care home in Market Harborough is embracing the yuletide season by opening its doors for a special reminiscence event.

Oat Hill Mews, on Leicester Road, is inviting people to revisit traditions from Christmas past by joining residents and team members on Friday 5th December from 5pm-7pm.

The event is part of Care UK’s Step into Christmas initiative, which aims to rekindle festive customs that residents remember from their childhood by reliving them and sharing them with the local community.

On that day, Oat Hill Mews will transform into a 1950s-inspired Christmas fair complete with traditional décor. Guests are encouraged to dress in vintage attire and will be able to enjoy mulled wine and mince pies. Adding to the festive spirit, children are invited to write letters to Santa.

Resident Hannah Scott said: “Christmas is my favourite, as it always reminds me of family enjoying time together.”

Susanne Stevens, Home Manager at Oat Hill Mews, said: “Christmas is such a special time of year and this event allows us to honour memories from residents’ childhoods, bringing them to life once again.

“This is also a wonderful opportunity to unite the community, celebrate the season and pass on traditions that may otherwise be forgotten.

“We’d like to encourage local people to join us to celebrate the festive season and bring the memories of Christmas past to Market Harborough.”
