Sheffield Skeptics in the Pub was founded in December 2009 and is a good way for people from all walks of life to hear from experts and discuss with them important issues that affect us all, while enjoying their favourite beverage. Meetings are held every third Monday of the month at Farm Road Sports & Social Club, Farm Road, Sheffield S2 2TP from 7.30 pm. There is no need to book and no entrance fee, but a voluntary donation of £3 is welcome to cover speaker's expenses and room hire. Parking is free if you type in your registration number on the tablet at the bar.
The December 2025 event is hosted by Sheffield Humanists, when Dr Susan Cartwright will present a talk on Parallel Universes. Parallel universes seem to be the stuff of science fiction - but they are a natural consequence of several established scientific theories. In this talk Susan will try to explain what kinds of parallel universes might exist, how they would (or would not) differ from our own, and whether there is any chance of proving or disproving the idea. Dr Cartwright is now an Honorary Senior Lecturer at the University of Sheffield. She is currently writing a book on the history of astronomy.
