If you’re curious about the functional power of mushrooms and how to weave them into everyday life, this immersive day-long workshop is for you. You’ll be welcomed with a nourishing lion’s mane cacao or coffee and time to settle in before exploring the fascinating history, folklore and medicinal use of mushrooms, from ancient traditions to their growing recognition in modern wellbeing. Together, we’ll look at why these remarkable organisms have been revered for centuries, and how their benefits are only just beginning to be fully understood.
After a short break with mushroom-infused treats, you’ll hear from Andy of Jurassic Coast Mushrooms, one of Dorset’s most knowledgeable foragers. He’ll share insights into his work, the importance of protecting native species, and why he prioritises local, seasonal fungi over imported varieties. From there, we’ll head into the woods to see what the season has to offer, learning how to identify species, forage responsibly, and understand what to do with your finds once you’re home.
Returning to Happy River, you’ll enjoy a nourishing, fungi-inspired lunch while learning how each ingredient supports health and vitality. The afternoon continues with a hands-on session inoculating your own mushroom log to take home, which will produce mushrooms for years to come. Andy will also guide you through drying, preserving, and preparing mushrooms, including making your own dual-extracted tincture to take away.
Throughout the day, you’ll deepen your understanding of the vital role fungi play in our ecosystems, gain practical skills you can use at home, and leave feeling inspired, nourished, and connected — to the land, your food, and the people around you.
