Sheffield Skeptics in the Pub

Sheffield Skeptics in the Pub was founded in December 2009 and is a good way for people from all walks of life to hear from experts and discuss with them important issues that affect us all, while enjoying their favourite beverage. Meetings are held every third Monday of the month at Farm Road Sports & Social Club, Farm Road, Sheffield S2 2TP from 7.30 pm. There is no need to book and no entrance fee, but a voluntary donation of £3 is welcome to cover speaker's expenses and room hire. Parking is free if you type in your registration number on the tablet at the bar.

The January 2026 event is hosted by Europe in the Pub. The speaker, David Raho, asks ‘Should we be Resisting or Embracing AI?.’

This is a very topical and important question that concerns us all. David is a PhD researcher in Law and Criminology at Sheffield Hallam University, investigating the comparative adoption of AI in Probation and Rehabilitation across England and Wales, Brazil, and Japan. He combines this academic work with broad practical experience, working within Probation and more recently with the AI team at His Majesty’s Prison and Probation Service.
