Southampton Modern Jazz Club presents Ben Carter Quartet on Sunday 1st March 7.00pm at Good Things Cafe, Southampton with local talent Ben Carter, young composer and saxophonist with his band, down from the midlands where he studied at the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire .
This is a free entry gig, with tip jar for the band and a live jam session after.
Ben Carter is a saxophonist, composer, musician and graduate from the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire. Originally from Hythe, Ben Carter started learning the alto saxophone from the age of 9 and spent much of his musical education taking part in bands and workshops all over Hampshire. After studying for 4 years at RBC and graduating in 2023, Carter released his debut album ‘Pulsar’ that was crowd funded, largely thanks to local supporters on the south coast. Inspired by the sound of classic saxophonists like Paul Desmond, Art Pepper and Charlie Parker, Carter aims to bring this sound to a more modern environment, incorporated into free-flowing, complex compositions inspired by musicians like Chris Potter, Kenny Garrett and Bob Reynolds. As well as playing music with his own band, he also plays in Impossible Conversations, a Birmingham-based band that recently toured the country playing music from their new EP ‘Orca’. Ben is bringing his full band down from Birmingham (guitar, bass, sax and drums). To hear his album, visit Ben's website: www.bencartersax.uk/
