Lost for words? Basingstoke care home to host two dementia advice even

A care home in Basingstoke is inviting the local community to its free dementia advice events.

Care UK’s Dashwood Manor, on Bradley Way, will be holding two special sessions as part of The Big Dementia Conversation – a nationwide initiative designed to show people how to better understand common symptoms and how it is possible to live well with the condition.

To help address these challenges, Care UK has launched The Big Dementia Conversation for the third year running, encouraging practical support and greater understanding for families and communities.

The ‘Staying Connected: a Guide to Dementia-Friendly Conversations’ session at Dashwood Manor will be led by Customer Relations Manager Leahanne Wilkinson on Thursday 5th March from 2pm–3.30pm and 6pm–7.30pm and Saturday 28th March from 10am–11.30am. The event will explore practical ways to communicate more effectively with people living with dementia, while offering simple strategies to stay connected, reduce frustration and create more meaningful moments in everyday life.

On Wednesday 11th March from 2pm–4pm and 6pm–8pm, Leahanne will host ‘Supporting People with Advanced Dementia’. She will share insights into the transition from moderate to advanced dementia and offer practical methods of supporting loved ones.

Dashwood Manor is designed to enable residents to lead active and fulfilled lives while also promoting independence. The care home incorporates plenty of space for hobby and leisure activities, with luxury facilities including a hair and beauty salon, cinema, bar and gardens.
