In the Evening Light

A choral concert of music inspired by the phrase ‘In the Evening Light’, performed by the Harborough Singers.

Perfect for a sunset performance on a spring evening, the choir's conductor Charlie Penn has searched high and low for beautiful pieces so that the choir can present their choral reflections at the close of day. Charlie’s selection includes well-known tunes like Vaughan Williams arrangement of the folk song ‘Loch Lomond’ and the Spiritual ‘Deep River arranged by Carsten Gerlitz, as well as classical offerings such as Joseph Rheinberger’s Evening Song and Charles Wood’s ‘Music, when soft voices die’, right through to exquisite modern pieces such as Frank Tichele’s ‘Earth Song’ and Eric Whitacre’s ‘A boy and a girl’, which the choir enjoy singing very much.

Later in the year the choir takes the same repertoire plus extra pieces ‘on tour’, and will fly the flag for Market Harborough during a week of performances in the spectacular Austrian capital of Vienna.

The accompanist, both here and in Vienna, is the accomplished pianist Andrew King.
