In 1776, pioneering industrialist Jedediah Strutt built his first cotton mil in the town of Belper. This was only the third cotton mill to be built anywhere in the world, and was one of the very first factories of the Industrial Revolution. As part of the Belper 250 celebrations commemorating the 250th anniversary of that historic event, this 3.5-mile guided walk looks at the military history of the town during that period. Starting and finishing in the shadow of the mills, and led by a guide with over 35 years experience of leading walks in the area, it covers the period from the Napoleonic Wars to the Second World War. Along the way it reveals a few little-known secrets, and explodes a few common myths that many in the town still believe today.
Available as both a morning (10:00am) and afternoon (2:00pm) walk, online pre-booking is essential as places on each walk are limited.
