Sheffield Skeptics in the Pub
Sheffield Skeptics in the Pub was founded in December 2009 and is a good way for people from all walks of life to hear from experts and discuss with them important issues that affect us all, while enjoying their favourite beverage. Meetings are normally held every third Monday of the month (but see below) at Farm Road Sports & Social Club, Farm Road, Sheffield S2 2TP from 7.30 pm. There is no need to book and no entrance fee, but a voluntary donation of £3 is welcome to cover speaker's expenses and room hire. Parking is free if you type in your registration number on the tablet at the bar.
Unusually, our June meeting will be on the FOURTH Monday of the month (the 22nd) and is hosted by Sheffield Humanists. It is titled 'Loose Cannons - Freethinkers who shook the world' and the speaker is Paul Fitzpatrick, who goes under the nickname 'Polyp'. The talk is based on Polyp's forthcoming new book, written in collaboration with Humanists UK's historian, Madeleine (Maddy) Goodall. It will be a cheeky, riveting, warts and all collection of short, lively biographies of world shaking humanists, some of whom are household names, and some who are deserving to be rediscovered.
Polyp is a professional cartoonist, graphic novelist and science educator. His recent works include PAINE, PETERLOO (about the infamous Manchester massacre of 1819) and thINK, a collection of his skepticism cartoons.
