Heritage Open Day: This year marks 200 years since Baptists first met for worship in Stratford. Come and visit our Church for guided or self-guided tours and learn about our history and contributions to the local community both in the past and the present day. The Payton Street Baptist Church has continuously occupied its current site since 1835. The Baptists previously met at the home of its founder, James Cox, the timber merchant, at 8 – 9 High Street, now Waterstones Bookshop.
The Church is grade II listed and has the only original unfluted Doric Portico in Stratford, and unique stained glass and tapered windows. The adjoining schoolroom, added in 1861, now known as the Fellowship Hall, is used for various Church activities.
