Heritage Open Day: Be creative and be a part of history for the future. Join artist Cath Campbell and sew your signature on this community co-created artwork inspired by The Mons Tablecloth held in the KOSB archive. This everyday piece of history records the simple meal given to Scottish officers at a Belgian farmhouse in August 1914, shortly before the Battle of Mons. As they left they signed a tablecloth as a memento of their visit which the family embroidered as a lasting memorial. Like the original Mons Tablecloth, this work is not about grand historical events. It is about hospitality, participation, remembrance and connection. All materials and instruction provided and all ages welcome.
