Ulverston Outsiders in 'The Accrington Pals'
September 1914: the men of Accrington joined up in their hundreds. Brothers, friends and workmates, they enlisted together and drilled together, and many of them died together on the Somme.
Peter Whelan’s play contrasts life at the front with the war’s devastating effects on the mill town the Pals left behind. The women of Accrington faced social change, deprivation and the lies of propaganda.
