Heritage Open Day: St. Mary's is one of Surrey's oldest churches, built around 1030 AD by Thored, the Danish Thane of the Manor of Horsley. It has a nave of some 47 feet in length. Its architectural significance boast a fine Norman and Tudor arches. The building is constructed of chalk clunch, which is found in the locality. The size of the church is unusual for a small parish, suggesting that Thored was a generous patron. The patrons of St. Mary's over the centuries have been Lords of the Manor of West Horsley, owning the house and estate which now comprises West Horsley Place.
