St Anne's Hospital, Boroughgate, Appleby-in-Westmorland CA16 6XQ Heritage Open Day: St. Anne’s Hospital was founded by Lady Anne Clifford in 1653 and for more than 350 years, ageing, widowed, or single ladies have lived there rent free. The building is Grade II* listed on the National Heritage List for England. The Almshouses are currently undergoing a major refurbishment project and, depending on builders' schedules, it is hoped that some parts will be open to the public to see the improvements that have been made so far.
