Haydn’s String Quartet in F minor, Op. 20 No. 5 shows the composer at his most innovative, from its dramatic opening to a brilliant fugal finale. Next in the programme is Webern's Langsamer Satz, a single movement work full of intense romantic longing, written before he developed his more modernist style.
