In the Spirit of Django
It's swing time in Edinburgh as the SNJO welcomes renowned guitarist Martin Taylor to celebrate the extraordinary music of gypsy jazz legend Django Reinhardt, one of the most perennially popular figures in jazz.
The pioneering music of gypsy jazz was pivotal to the evolution of jazz in Europe and these concerts pay tribute to Django’s contribution by exploring both familiar and less known pieces. Everyone knows the sound of a gypsy jazz guitar, but Django played the instrument like no one else and his music is a testimony to the strength of one man’s indomitable spirit.
There is no guitarist on the world stage today more capable of evoking the spirit of Django’s music than Martin Taylor. who connects the golden age of Parisian Swing to the present day and enjoyed an extraordinary partnership with Reinhardt’s closest musical collaborator, Stéphane Grappelli.
"Martin Taylor is one of the most awesome solo guitar players in the history of the instrument." – Pat Metheny
