Qigong Craven Arms

In our modern, hi-tech, always-on world, if you’re stressed or tense, if you want to feel better in yourself, if you want to enhance your physical and mental potential, then Qigong could be for you. The movements of Qigong are designed to relax you and get you out of your head and into your body. They are slow and gentle, easy for almost anyone to do, whatever your age* or state of health, as they can be done standing or sitting.

Pronounced chee-gung, Qigong has its roots in ancient China, some 4,000 years ago. Not as well known as its younger sibling, Tai Chi, Qigong is often thought of as easier to learn, although it can look a lot the same in many respects.

Beyond the benefits of the physical movements is the capacity for Qigong to directly and positively affect your qi, the energy of your body. You don’t have to believe in qi or be able to sense it directly (although the practice of Qigong will help you to do so), the movements themselves take care of all that. In the Chinese medical model, blocked qi is what causes illnesses. From a western perspective, stress and tension lead to all sorts of medical problems. In Qigong, you learn to
unblock stagnant qi and release stress and tension for yourself.

If Qigong sounds as if it’s something you might like to try, please get in touch to book a free taster class at the Methodist Church Hall in Craven Arms on any Wednesday 10:00 to 11:00. This will be followed by an introductory eight-week beginners’ course. COVID-19 safety measures will be in place, of course.

To book for the free class or for more information, please email Simon, chigung@whiteoak-aikido.org, or call on 01432 509467, or go to www.whiteoak-aikido.co.uk/pages/Qigong-Craven-Arms.html.
