4 Sparty Lea Terrace - Open Garden for NGS
This surprisingly lush garden lies at 1,100ft above sea level in the North Pennines AONB. It has evolved over 20 yrs from meadowland to cottage garden with herbaceous border, lawns wildlife pond and abundant half hardy annuals. Mature shrubs and trees surrounded by dry stone walls provide wind protection. The terrace was built in 1850 at the height of lead mining and smelting in the Allen valleys.
