Almost two years later than planned, due to obvious reasons, the Middlewich and District Concerts Society is pleased to welcome the Worleston Ensemble - Andrew Bassey (bassoon) and Jonathan Ellis (piano). Both have passed through the RNCM with distinction, which is a clear indication of their talent. Andrew is now Music Director of the Worleston Music School. In addition to his teaching roles he is also a keen exponent of chamber music. Jonathan performs extensively around the North-West, as a soloist, accompanist and chamber musician.
The programme for the concert is too long to list here in detail, but includes music by Edward Elgar (Romance for Bassoon and Salut d'Amour), Camille Saint-Saens (Bassoon Sonata), Quenton Ashlyn (The Bassoon - A Humorous Song - take note, it is a song and singing while playing the bassoon is not easy!), Jean Françaix (Divertissement) and Franz Liszt (Hungarian Rhapsody and Dances). For Paul Dukas' Villanelle for Horn and Piano the horn will be played by Andrew's son Timothy. The Liszt pieces are for solo piano, giving Jonathan the opportunity to take centre stage. It seems unlikely that anyone could fail to enjoy such a diverse programme.
