Sunday afternoon concert by A4 Brass Quartet, nr Eccleshall, Stafford

5:30pm concert by the celebrated A4 Brass Quartet (postponed from 2021) on afternoon of Sunday 3rd July in Adbaston, near Eccleshall (Stafford Borough). The four exciting professional instrumentalists perform a programme of classical and contemporary brass chamber music, featuring arrangements of music by Vaughan Williams, Vivaldi, Mendelssohn, Piazzolla, Richard Strauss, Leonard Bernstein and Evelyn Glennie, together with other original compositions for this unique blend of brass instruments.

A4 Brass Quartet players are all principals at leading regional orchestras and in some of the UK’s top brass bands, including Black Dyke, Brighouse & Rastrick and Foden’s. With “technical virtuosity in abundance” (Brass Band World), they perform both traditional and modern works, forming a distinctive and new take on chamber music. Players are Jamie Smith on cornet / flugelhorn, Jonathan Bates on tenor horn, Mike Cavanagh on baritone horn, and Chris Robertson on euphonium.

Formed in 2013 at the Royal Northern College of Music (RNCM), A4 Brass Quartet has became a multi-award-winning ensemble and established itself at the forefront of British brass chamber music. The Quartet has a unique blend of instruments that creates an exclusive sound, distinctive from the standard brass quartet. They have performed widely throughout the UK appearing at major venues and festivals in London, Manchester and beyond, plus overseas engagements in Finland, Switzerland, and Lithuania.

They feature regularly on national television and radio, appearing multiple times on both ITV’s Christmas Carol Concerts and BBC Radio 3’s ‘In-Tune’ with Sean Rafferty and Katie Derham. In 2021 they released a critically acclaimed second studio album, 'Mosaic' that has been featured on Classic FM, BBC Radio 3 and Scala Radio.
