On The Waterfront - 4K Restoration
‘It is one of the most powerful American movies of the 50s, and few movies caused so much talk, excitement, and dissension…’ Pauline Kael, New Yorker
A striking 4K restoration celebrates the 70th anniversary, featuring an iconic musical score from Leonard Bernstein, of Elia Kazan’s legendary elegy to American corruption, redemption and missed opportunity which swept the 1955 Academy Awards® with 8 wins and has truly never looked better.
Dockworker Terry Malloy had been an up-and-coming boxer until powerful local mob boss Johnny Friendly persuaded him to throw a fight. When a longshoreman is murdered before he can testify about Friendly's control of the Hoboken waterfront, Terry teams up with the dead man's sister Edie and the streetwise priest Father Barry to testify himself, against the advice of Friendly's lawyer, Terry's older brother Charley, in this 1954 American crime drama classic, starring Marlon Brando.
‘This brutal, violently realistic drama, set against the sordid background of the New York waterfront, packs a terrific wallop that results in topflight entertainment.’ Jack Moffitt, Hollywood Reporter
‘Indisputably one of the great American films, its power undiminished.’ Kenneth Turan, Los Angeles Times
‘It is still possible to feel the power of the film and of Brando and Kazan, who changed American movie acting forever.’ Roger Ebert, Chicago Sun-Times
