About the event
Spend a relaxing day painting at Attenborough Nature Centre led by Anjana Cawdell. Anjana is a nature-inspired watercolour artist based in Nottingham, who loves to paint in a loose, impressionistic style.
The workshop is designed to get you excited about the wonderful medium of watercolour in a small group setting of up to eight, enabling you to appreciate the mindfulness aspect of the practice and equip you with lots of valuable tips to help you with your future paintings.
This workshop will focus on the beautiful array of invertebrates that reside in Attenborough Nature Reserve. The session will start with a brief introduction to materials and exercises focused on familiarising yourself with the medium of watercolour and practising brush control. Anjana will then discuss how to analyse a subject, note how a particular invertebrate is seen to behave in nature, and how to depict those elements in a successful composition. Anjana will demonstrate how she would approach painting each insect, followed by you creating your own version with personal tuition available throughout. We will provide everything you need including paints, brushes and watercolour paper.
The workshop is based in the Conference Room with beautiful views across the water and includes a buffet lunch and refreshments. All our food is freshly made on the premises using locally sourced ingredients where possible. Our cakes and sweet treats are supplied by two independent, local businesses – Beeston Brownies and Homemade Café. With 48-hours' notice, we can cater for most dietary and allergy needs. Please email us if you have any questions or to inform us of any specific requirements/requests.
