Heritage Open Day: An opportunity to learn about how the library has changed since it was built. Developing from a formal library service with separate reading rooms for ladies and gentlemen, to opening Sheffield’s first children’s library. Walkley Library is the only Carnegie Library in Sheffield and is a grade II Listed Building, in the Tudor Revival style with features following Andrew Carnegie’s ideals, including a magnificent porch reached by the “steps to wisdomâ€.
It is an associate Library to Sheffield Libraries, run by the community for the community. It was partially built to fill the gap following the closure of the nearby Ruskin St George’s Museum.
