Walkley Carnegie Library

Heritage Open Day: An opportunity to learn about how the library has changed since it was built. Developing from a formal library service with separate reading rooms for ladies and gentlemen, to opening Sheffield’s first children’s library. Walkley Library is the only Carnegie Library in Sheffield and is a grade II Listed Building, in the Tudor Revival style with features following Andrew Carnegie’s ideals, including a magnificent porch reached by the “steps to wisdom”.

It is an associate Library to Sheffield Libraries, run by the community for the community. It was partially built to fill the gap following the closure of the nearby Ruskin St George’s Museum.
